My name is Mara Jacob and I’ve been an agent, a marketer, a promoter, an event planner, a consultant, a bartender, a writer, an artist manager, and so many other things. I’ve been flush and broke. What some would consider successful and others a failure.
I booked talent at a small club in Minneapolis and I became an agent at a top talent agency in Los Angeles. I’ve dealt blackjack in Vegas. I’ve traveled the world as a student, an artist manager, and a tourist.
I've been a doctor, a psychiatrist, a stylist, an accountant, a teacher, and a lawyer all without the degrees. I have dealt with the unknown, the famous and the infamous. I've solved problems that I never knew existed. I once had an artist refuse to get off his private plane unless I found him drugs. The support artist was already on stage. I guess you could say I have been a drug dealer as well.
I've never felt there was such a thing as a job that was beneath me or beyond my abilities. Where there is a will, there is a way. And I have plenty of will. Some would say I am stubborn. An old boss said I didn't know the meaning of the word NO. I actually do know the meaning. I just think it is the worst word in the English language. I also dislike the words "you can't" or "it's not possible'. I take them all on as a challenge. Sometimes to hilarious ends.
Currently I live in Los Angeles and work in several areas within the entertainment field including management, consulting and social media.
Just as I don't believe in a sold-out show, I believe we are all capable of more than we know if we give ourselves the chance.
One of the best things I ever heard a friend say to me was, “I had to call you, I just had a Mara Moment!” When I told other friends about it, they all said they knew exactly what he meant.
I have been asked for a while to write a book. To be honest, I am not sure I have that in me yet. But I do have some great “moments” that I would love to share with you.
